Athena was an Ancient Greek deity who was the virginal Patroness of Athens and embodied many noble qualities such as wisdom and courage; she was subsequently adopted by the Romans who named her Minerva. The present example is after the 2nd century Roman example in the collection of the Glypothek, Munich, Germany.
