Lot Essay

Marco Piono was born in 1959 in Hamburg, Germany and lives between Berlin and Carrara and he works exclusively in marble and bronze. The great fascination of marble for the artist lies in the vitality of the material, which Piono sees as a timeless medium, petrifying his visible ideas.
The present 'maquette' thought to be by Antoniazzi is based on Piono's large-scale sculpture Il silenzio nell'est e nell'ovest (1991), located in Pietrasanta, Italy.
