inscribed 'Thomas Farmor of Easton Neston in the County of Northampton, Baron Lempster of Lempster in the County of Hereford and Baronett Created Earl of Pomfret in the Dutchey of Lancaster and County of York in December 1721 the Eight^th, of George the First. Install^d Knight of the Bath in June 1745, Walked at the Coronation of King George the Second and Queen Caroline in October 1727 and the same Month was Declared Master of the Horse to that Queen Son of William Farmor Baron Lemster by the Lady Sophia his wife, Daughter of Thomas Osborne Duke of Leeds.', with his coat-of-arms and those of his descendants (upper left)

Earl of Pomfret was a title created in 1721 for Thomas Fermor, 2nd Baron Leominster. The Fermor family descend from Richard Fermor (d. 1552) who acquired great wealth as a merchant. The seat of the Fermor family was Easton Neston in Northamptonshire one of Britain's greatest baroque mansions, which is often linked to two of the most illustrious names in British architecture, Nicholas Hawksmoor and Sir Christopher Wren.
