FIRST EDITION. The plates are dated 1 January 1789 and the work was probably published in the early months of this year. The book remained in print until 1826 but it seems like the Taylors printed sufficient stocks of their letterpress in 1788 to supply the text for all copies sold between 1789 and 1826 and no other editions have been traced. The plates were reprinted with the number on plate 44, at first numbered '43', corrected at some point after the first impression. In the present copy the plate is already correctly numbered 'Plate 44'. Some copies are found with 2 pp. smaller format publisher's catalogue bound in at the back. Berlin Kat. 2341az; RIBA 3098.
