The work of Abdulrahman Katanani is made using the toughest metal and harsh materials, yet portrays simple imageries and dreamy sceneries.

The work evokes a facet of daily life and the will to escape and reach a better reality. He finds, molds, and reconstructs materials from Palestinian refugee camps. His work contemplates the life of the Palestinian people living in camps, where wires and metal sheets are no longer used as a defense system for the fragile housing, but rather to keep the refugees in order.

The present lot by Katanani portrays a very light jewel like young boy transported by a balloon. He is floating on a wall, being lifted from the ground, transported spiritually. All these elements of extremely dry nature and ugly truth come to life and transcend from the mundane to a better imaginary status.

Katanani has been exhibiting in caricature and art shows in Beirut, Paris and Kuala Lumpur since 2001. He was twice awarded prizes by the Sursock Museum at the occasion of their Salon d'Automne: in 2009, the Young Artist Prize and in 2008 a Special Mention of the jury.
