Only thirteen watering-cans were produced in the 1750s, and only seven are currently extant. The ten smaller cans were priced at 108 livres, while the three larger examples, including the present lot, were priced at 120 livres. For an example in the Getty Collection, see A. Sassoon, Vincennes and Sèvres Porcelain Catalogue of the Collections, Malibu, 1991, pp. 4-7, no. 1. Also compare S. Eriksen & G. de Bellaigue, Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1987, p. 287, no. 100 for an example in the C.L. David Collection, Copenhagen; the slightly smaller (2eme grandeur) example sold Bonham's, London, 16 May 2007, lot 160 (£79,200); and the example sold Christie's, Monaco, 3 December 1989.
