Lot Essay

The name Gaut-Seshenu means 'Bundle of lotus flowers', cf. H. Ranke, Die ägyptischen Personennamen, vol. 1, Glückstadt, 1935, no. 350 [6], and the word 'Seshenu', lotus, is the origin of our modern Susanne. Shabtis were not gender specific and only the name in the inscription informs whether it was made for a man or a woman; on this occasion, the latter.
