A GREEK BRONZE 'PSEUDO-CORINTHIAN' HELMET
APULIA, CIRCA 450-400 B.C.
Formed of hammered sheet, with broad flat neck-guard, the arching eyebrows mirrored with raised ridge above extending around the perimeter of the crown, small false eye-holes and nose-guard outlined with incised chevrons, a pointed leaf at outer corner of each eye, confronting boars incised along each false cheekpiece, border of incised zigzags along rim, small attachment hoop riveted to crown with two further rivets perhaps for plume-holders, each end and centre of neck-guard pierced, slit at centre of peak
