SEVEN MESOPOTAMIAN STONE AMULETS
CIRCA 4TH-3RD MILLENNIUM B.C.
Including six Jemdet Nasr amulets, two of calcite, one in the form of a recumbent bull with horns curving up, eyes drilled, snout incised, legs folded beneath, with long curling tail; and one in the form of a recumbent ibex, its head turned back, drilled eye, horns protruding backwards from crown, legs folded beneath, the underside engraved with four quadrupeds with long tails; one of white stone in the form of a recumbent bull with horns curving up, eyes drilled, legs folded beneath; one of black stone of a recumbent fox with flat incised muzzle, drilled eyes, ears pricked, legs, haunches and tail articulated; one of red stone in the form of a striding boar, face tapering to pointed snout; one of grey stone in the form of a leaping hare; and a Sumerian indurated limestone male figure depicted seated, wearing fringed robe, circa 2400 B.C.
