A RARE LARGE GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF THE DAOIST GUARDIAN FIGURE WANG LINGGUAN
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY
The figure is powerfully cast seated with one hand outstretched pointing forward and the other raised above his head, wielding a ringed sword-like weapon. He wears an elaborate headdress with a pair of dragons and is dressed in an ornate suit of armour with a celestial scarf billowing above his shoulders and trailing down the sides. The armour is detailed with a large be-ribboned Buddhist lion-mask, ruyi-heads and cloud scrolls, and tassled bells to the hems. Modelled with a third eye above the bulging eyes and a flaring beard, his face has a wrathful expression.
