ALKEN, Henry. Leicesteshire Covers 1820. London: Dickinson and Foster, 1820. 4 hand-coloured etched plates by A. Tallberg after Alken (181 x 651mm), window-mounted in oblong 2° album (498 x 735mm), with modern letterpress title. (Restored, several long closed tears and small losses in engraved areas, some damage to margins.) Modern blue half morocco gilt by Aquarius.
FINE SERIES OF GREAT RARITY. In the frieze-like plates, top-hatted riders move across the undulating Leicestershire countryside with its skeletal trees, high fences and broad streams. Each plate carries the series title as well as a caption. cf. Siltzer p. 60 for the 1824 series of the same name, engraved by T. Sutherland.
