FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL CLOTH; the biography, finely illustrated by Alken, of one Britain's great eccentrics. 'A most valuable and important book for the sporting life of the period, aptly described by Newton as "a biography of a real man that reads like a work of fiction"' (Tooley). The second edition was enlarged, but three of the plates appear only in this first edition. Tooley 66; Schwerdt I, p.38.
