AURE, Antoine Cartier d' (1799-1863). Traité d' équitation. Paris: Mme Leclère, 1834. 2° (297 x 229mm). With errata leaf. Lithographed frontispiece and 26 hand-coloured plates by Frey after Ledieu. (Some small marginal repairs, some spotting and offsetting, the colour in some plates oxidized.) Contemporary half leather, spine gilt in compartments (extremities rubbed, spine-head chipped). Provenance: Gaston Guitton (1825-1891, sculptor; title stamp).
FIRST EDITION, HAND-COLOURED COPY. D'Aure was riding master at the Ecole de Versailles and, later, Saumur. Traité is his first major work and was often reissued in the 19th-century, but it is rare: it is not in Huth, and ABPC records no copy at auction in over 35 years. Nissen ZBI 165.
