The white ground embroidered in coloured silks, the pelmet worked with the monogram 'MA' surmounted by a crown, the date beneath, the field and the valances worked with stylised flowers and foliage, with cord trim to the bottom edges

Lot Essay

This set is said to have been commissioned by Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the second son of Queen Victoria, for his wife Maria Alexandrovna of Russia.
