拍品專文

The carved and painted mirror is inspired by designs for pier glasses published by Thomas Chippendale (d.1779) in the Director (1754, 56 and 62). It relates to a pair of giltwood pier glasses that also feature squirrels possibly commissioned either for Newby Park or Studley Royal, Yorkshire and sold in these rooms, 'Mount Congreve: The London Sale', 23 May 2012, lot 104, £133,250 including premium.
