Lot Essay

Les tablettes à écrire de forme rectangulaire étaient généralement en bois, en os ou en ivoire. Leurs revers étaient vidés en surface laissant un petit rebord en relief afin de recevoir de la cire molle dans laquelle on écrivait des notes à l'aide d'un stylet ou poinçon.
Bien que la composition de notre tablette soit plus intense dans la disposition des personnages, nous pouvons la rapprocher stylistiquement de la plaquette gauche du diptyque conservé au musée Carolino-Augusteumde de Salzbourg (R. Koechlin, op. cit. n. 519, PL. XCII).
