Lot Essay

Le groupe ici présent est à rapprocher d'un point de vue stylistique et iconographique du groupe représentant Saint Michel terrassant les démons, conservé au Louvre (P. Malgouyres, op. cit., fig. 42).
Bien que la pose et le traitement du modelé des corps soient plus sages, celui-ci est plus complexe au niveau des détails de l'expression des visages. Le mouvement et les proportions de notre groupe en ivoire sont non seulement atypiques mais aussi représentatives d'un artiste ayant une grande maîtrise de la sculpture sur ivoire au XVIIIème siècle.
