Lot Essay

This vase was one of the first made by Janet Leach after her arrival in St Ives, whilst still getting used to the clay. She had only just been introduced to the St Ives Pottery style of cutting a pot off the wheel with a twisted wire, and the base shows that she was not yet used to it.
