Lot Essay
William Marshall was foreman at the Leach Pottery. He was a fine thrower and in Bernard's later years did a lot of his throwing, leaving Bernard to apply the decoration.
Bernard Leach said of him in Beyond East and West that he has "learnt not only first-rate skill as a craftsman, especially as a thrower on the potter's wheel, but has gradually become quite an expressive potter - one of the best in the country".1
