Kitae [forging pattern]: fine ko-itame with jinie
Hamon [tempering pattern]: medium suguha of ko-nie
Horimono [carvings]: maru-dome bohi
Boshi [tip]: ko-maru
Nakago [tang]: o-suriage, kiri file marks, two mekugi-ana, kirijiri (cut away)
Habaki [collar]: single silver-clad copper
Nagasa [length of blade]: 70.1cm.
Koshirae [mounting]: katana koshirae, black lacquered saya, fuchi/kashira of shakudo nanako with shishi carved in high relief with gold inlay signed Yasukiyo (Kaneko Yasukiyo 1825-1896) with kao, shakudo menuki of shishi with gilt details, the round iron tsuba of thin russet plate with raised mimi, pierced with hanabishi and a half-cherry blossom, Momoyama period (16th-17th century)

Although the blade characteristics of the first indicate both Hizen and Higo, the deep curve and the suriage condition imply a 16th century blade, and the paucity of the ji-nie rather suggest Sue-Enju work.
