A carved ivory dyptich depicting the Nativity and the Crucifixion
French, 14th century
The left leaf depicting the holy family with Mary lovingly reaching down to the Infant Christ laying swaddled in the manger; the right leaf depicting the Crucified Christ flanked by Mary and John, both beneath Gothic tracery. Mounted on a modern stand.

A similar but slightly smaller dyptich is illustrated in D. Gaborit Chopin, Ivoires Médiévaux Ve-XVe siècle, Paris 2003, cat. no. 207, p. 471.
