Lot Essay

Founder of the German Cancer Aid, Dr. Mildred Scheel was the wife of Walter Scheel who was president of West Germany in the 1970s. Warhol was a personal friend of Scheel's and created portraits of her in 1980 as a fundraiser for her charity.
