4° (270 x 205mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece by Choffard after Monnet, engraved tailpiece. (Some spotting, a few leaves browned, dampstain in bottom margin of a few leaves.) Contemporary red half leather, red morocco spine label, spine gilt and with Paul I's cipher at the head (extremities rubbed, some soiling). Provenance: Paul I of Russia (binding; Pavlovsk stamps).
PAUL I'S COPY of the first edition in French of this encomium of Catherine II, with the engraved frontispiece showing Catherine's promulgation of the 'Nakaz'. Domashnev was then Director of the Academy.
