4° (290 x 210mm). (Two leaves soiled, a few leaves with some marginal browning.) Contemporary dark green morocco by C. Bruhn of Moscow, with his ticket, sides with a blind-tooled border incorporating birds, flowers and an urn, upper side titled in gilt, white moiré-style endpapers, edges gilt (upper side unevenly darkened, spine gilding perished, endpapers discoloured). Provenance: Maximilian, 3rd Duke of Leuchtenberg (1817-1852; bookplate, spine label).
FIRST EDITION. THE LEUCHTENBERG COPY, IN A FINE MOROCCO BINDING by Bruhn with an unusual rocaille design on the covers. Luzhin's report includes details of fires, sudden deaths, violent deaths, and extensive statistical tables, including a very detailed account of Moscow's various workshops and factories, and their assessed wealth. Maximilian Leuchtenberg married Nicholas I's eldest daughter, Mariia Nikolaevna. RARE: no copies on WorldCat or Copac.
