FIRST EDITION. THE TSARSKOE SELO COPY OF NAPOLEON'S LIFE, IN A FINE CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Jomini distinguished himself in battle with the French until, passed over for promotion by Berthier, he went to Alexander's army. Jomini was an excellent tactician, and campaigned at Dresden, Kulm and Leipzig; he accompanied Alexander to Paris in 1815 following the peace; and later was charged with the military education of Alexander's brother and successor Nicholas I. Jomini had earlier published a work on military tactics, the Traité des grandes opérations de la guerre, and gave a copy to Napoleon on the battlefield at Austerlitz, when he brought him news that the Tyrol had been conquered.
