Bifolium (205 x 130mm), with black border. Deep blue-black velvet, sides with border of on-laid silver foil (corners lightly rubbed). Provenance: Nicholas II of Russia (bookplate).

NICHOLAS II'S COPY IN A VELVET BINDING of this memorial ode composed on the death of his grandfather Alexander II. Nicholas was just 13 at the time of the dramatic event which made him Tsarevich, and was staying at the Winter Palace when Alexander was brought there following his assassination.
