KONSTANTIN KONSTANTINOVICH, Grand Duke of Russia (1858-1915). Portrait photograph signed in Cyrillic 'Konstantin' (upper left) and dated '1904' (lower left), in an oval on rectangular card, by E. Mrozovskaia Studio, St. Petersburg, 300 x 200mm, in gilt mounted wood frame with imperial crown applied to upper border.
The grand duke is shown full-length in naval uniform, perched on a balustrade. The grandson of Nicholas I, Konstantin was trained for service in the navy and saw action during the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78. He is, however, best remembered as a poet, dramatist, translator, and as the elected president of the Imperial Academy of Sciences.
