WANG YETING (1884-1942)
The rectangular panel is painted with a seated man in a blue robe fishing from his boat in a mountainous river landscape scattered with further boats; the inscription express the artist's wish to escape the turmoil of everyday life by spending his time with nature, just like the fisherman in this painting, signed Yeting Zi Zhuang that may be translated as Yeting's personal statements, with two seals reading Ping Sheng and Wang Ping.

Lot Essay

Wang Yeting (1884-1942) was one of a group of artists known collectively as the "Eight Friends of Zhushan". He studied at the Jiangxi Ceramics School in Poyang in 1906 and was a student of Xiaogang and Pan Taoyu. He is known for his landcape paintings.
