A CIRCULAR CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BOX AND COVER
18TH CENTURY
The cover is carved with a scholar and two attendants standing by a bridge and willow tree in a mountainous riverscape, the sides with an intricate design of lotus heads on a dense scrolling foliate ground, the base similarly carved, the black lacquer interior embellished in gilt with five bats amongst clouds encircling a shou motif.
8¼ in. (21 cm.) diam.
