Two autograph letters signed, the first to an unidentified female pianist, Munich, 12 May [1888], discussing his difficulty in completing a cadenza, and his current compositions, including the first draft of an opera text (presumably for Guntram), as well as 'a dozen lieder and I am now working on a symphonic poem Don Juan (after Lenau). You laugh!', 3 pages, 8vo, bifolium; the second to G.F. Kogel, Berlin, [10 May 1898], on the programme for the first performance of his Heldenleben (on 3 March 1899), insisting on its inseparability from Don Quixote, 'Don Quixote u. Heldenleben sind nämlich so sehr als directe Pendants gedacht, daß besonders Don Qu. erst neben Heldenleben voll u. ganz verständlich ist', 3 pages, 8vo, envelope; with a typed letter signed with autograph postscript, 4 November 1906; and a score sheet (for a game of 'skat') signed by Strauss, with a related postcard.
