Cylindrical on spreading foot, cover with finial modelled as a cavalry officer in pill box cap and stable jacket, leading his horse, foliate scroll handle, spout with projecting dog's mask, gilt interior, sides chased in relief with jockeys readying themselves before the race, front with reserve engraved with badge of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, foot rim inscribed Presented to the Officers Mess 5th Royal Irish Lancers by Lieut. Colonel F.W. Carden. A reminiscence of 14 years service from March 1858 to March, 1872
