FABRICIUS, Johan Christian (Danish zoologist, 1745-1808). Autograph letter signed ('J.C. Fabricius') to the German entomologist Wilhelm Meigen, Paris, 10 August 1804, in German, expressing his desire to make Meigen's acquaintance, and his disappointment at not finding him in Paris; he hopes to see him in Stolberg on his way home, 'Ich freue mich sehr, einen wahren Entomologen mehr kennen zu lernen', one page, 4to, integral address leaf, remains of seal, docketed (light spotting, minor tears to edges, seal tear), with a transcription.
Meigen and Fabricius did indeed meet at Stolberg, as the latter suggests here, though the meeting put them somewhat at odds, with Fabricius responding critically to the eclectic methods used by Meigen in his classifications, and insisting that a classification should be based on one body part only.
