Woodcut portrait on general title, title for the Discorsi bound before Il Principe in vol. I and that for Il Principe before the Discorsi in vol. II. (Without blank è4 in Discorsi and blank 4y2 in L'Asino d'Oro, some browning and occasional spotting, a few paper flows.) Contemporary red morocco gilt, gilt edges (extremities lightly rubbed, spine lightly faded). Provenance: Eduardo J. Bullrich (bookplate).
A TESTINA EDITION which uses the woodcut portrait of the Comin da Trino edition of the Il Principe of 1541. The work is dated 1550 but it was in fact published in the first half of the 17th century. Some of the later editions bear a Geneva imprint, hence the tentative attribution of this edition to Switzerland by Machiavelli's bibliographers. Some pages are unopened.
