Original illustrated wrappers printed in blue bound in later half calf over textured boards. Provenance: Pablo Neruda (presentation inscription to:) -- Hernán Bravo.
FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY NERUDA TO POET HERNAN BRAVO, in Spanish: 'For Hernán Bravo from his old friend Pablo Neruda 1956'; Neruda has also added an ink flourish on the front wrapper. An attractive production with full-page illustration complementing the authors distinctive love poetry. Neruda won the 1971 Nobel Prize for Literature, an accolade for which he had been short-listed already in 1964. It was later revealed that his nomination was undermined by the campaigning of the Congress for Cultural Freedom, a group funded by the Central Intelligence Agency.
