Château Palmer--Vintage 1989
Cantenac (Margaux), 3me cru classé
Two slightly nicked labels
A recent dinner was enlivened by a delicious bottle of 89 Palmer, one of my favorite recent vintages from this château. While some have been very reticent, this particular bottle opened up after an hour in the decanter to release a ripe, round plummy fruit note with just a bit of oak spice left and a hint of black truffle beginning to creep in V a really nice stage of evolution. On the palate the wine was still firmly tannic but not overly so, with a finish that was well balanced and long. Starting to open now, this wine still has decades of potential aging. Dinner with friends in Hong Kong, January 2011
