The four-masted iron ship County of Dumfries was built in 1878 by Barclay, Curle & Co. for R. & J. Craig of Glasgow. Registered at 1718 tons gross, she measured 266 feet in length with a 38 foot beam and her first master was Captain McLean. Sold to Captain J. Tork of Raumo, Finland in 1905 she was renamed Sovinto. In November 1906, she was wrecked at East Point, Prince Edward Island in the Indian Ocean on a voyage from Campbelltown to Australia with a cargo of timber.
