A MESOPOTAMIAN POTTERY INCANTATION BOWL FOR MAIHARNAHOD BAT BOTUS
CIRCA 4TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
The shallow bowl inscribed primarily in Judeo-Aramaic and some Hebrew with a thirteen-line spiraling incantation to ward off bad dreams, largely unreadable, the text mentioning the demon Lilith, with the name of God highlighted throughout, the end including a quotation from the Old Testament, Zechariah 3:2, "And the Lord said unto Satan, the Lord rebukes you, Satan, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you; is the man not a brand plucked from the fire?" then in Hebrew including the Jewish priestly benediction, "May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord cause his face to shine upon you and show favor unto you. May the Lord raise his face unto you and grant you peace," ending with, "Amen Amen Selah"
