Lot Essay

Sheshonq I was the first ruler of the 22nd Dynasty. He belonged to a family of Libyan chiefs that had been living in Egypt for generations and his reign ushered in the Libyan dynasties of the Third Intermediate Period. He is best known as the Pharaoh "Shishak" of the Old Testament who invaded the newly divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah (1 Kings 14:25; and 2 Chronicles 12:1-12).
