Oppermann worked at the court of St Petersburg from 1807 where he painted Tsar Alexander I and other high-ranking members. Another miniature by Oppermann of the tsar, dated 1809, is in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden (inv. no. M 140).
