Anna Feodorovna was the daughter of Franz, Duke of Saxe-Saalfeld-Coburg and his second wife, Augusta, née Countess Reuss zu Ebersdorf. Instigated by Empress Catherine II, she married in 1796, the seventeen-year old Grand Duke Constantine Pavlovich (1779-1831). They had an unhappy marriage and they first separated in 1799 and then finally in 1801 when she returned to her native home. She had two illegitimate children in 1808 and 1812, the latter whilst living in Switzerland. Her marriage to Grand Duke Constantine Pavlovich was annulled in 1820 and he re-married. She died in Elfenau, near Berne on 15 August 1860.
