Pauline was the wife of Jean-Baptiste Augustin and, according to Leo Schidlof, 'She was the best pupil of her husband and his collaborator, and came to adopt his style to such an extent that it is often impossible to distinguish the work of each' (L. R. Schidlof, The Miniature in Europe, Graz, I, p. 54).
