A GEORGE II SILVER TANKARD
MARK OF CHARLES KANDLER, LONDON, 1731
Tapering cylindrical on spreading circular foot, applied at waist with reeded band and later engraved near rim with scrolls, rocaille, husk swags and diaperwork, with double-scroll handle, the hinged domed cover with scroll thumbpiece, later engraved with a coat-of-arms and a crest below a baron's coronet, marked under foot and inside cover
9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) high
57 oz. 2 dwt. (1,777 gr.)
The arms are those of those of Clifford impaling Lee for Hugh, 4th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh (1726-1783) and his wife Lady Anne Lee (d. 1802), fifth daughter of George, 2nd Earl of Lichfield (1690-1742), whom he married in 1749.
