Lot Essay

The painting is dedicated to Cai Ruohong (1910 - 2002), native of Jiangxi, who was one of the founding members of the New Chinese Art Foundation, as well as a noted artist and social activist. Cai took up many important positions in promoting Chinese arts and culture, such as art editor of the People's Daily (renmin ribao), deputy head of the Cultural Affairs Art department and deputy head of the Chinese Paintings Research Academy.
