Suspension eggs are frequently found in the Orthodox churches as well as mosques. Some of these eggs were offered by pilgrims to the church, as votive offerings. Given their egg-shaped form, these hanging components were likely symbolic of the cult of fertility. For more details see: J. Carswell and C.J.F. Dowsett, Ktahya Tiles and Pottery from the Armenian Cathedral of St. James, Jerusalem, Vol. II, p.63.
