Rudolf Lehnert and Ernest Landrock met when they were each around 21 years old, around the time Lenhert was traveling around Europe. Lehnert first traveled to Tunisia in 1903, and when he returned to Europe, he and Landrock decided to return to Tunisia together. For the next six years Lehnert and Landrock were business partners. In 1908, they opened a shop in Tunisia - Lehnert took photographs of the people and their culture, while Landrock was the business director.
