Ernest B. Schoedsack, a successful director during the Golden Age of Hollywood, took this photo in Thailand while gathering material for his next movie Chang: A Drama of the Wilderness (1927). The National Geographic Society hired Schoedsack to write several illustrated articles for the magazine while on location in Thailand.
