拍品专文

Born in 1977, Lee Kyung-Mi received her BFA and MFA from Hong-Ik University, Seoul. Lee gained immediate attention from the art world and the general public as well with her first solo show in 2005. Since then, she has been successfully achieving constant recognition with fascinating developments both in dexterity and conception. Featured here, If you don't know where you're going, just go (Lot 519) is a shaped canvas painting with three-dimensional structure attached amongst several doors painted in perspective with multiple vanishing points. In this painting, with the title extracted from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the door represents the border of different worlds, as well as a rite of passage. Each door invites the viewer into a room of recollection, reminiscence and unconsciousness. As in The Road not Taken by Robert Frost, the painting may also symbolize roads, ahead to be traveled in life, and also a place of the unknown and unexplored.
