Lot Essay

The view almost certainly looks west from the road south of Delphi in County Mayo. The foreground water may be Fin Lough. Mweelrea mountain rises to a height of 817 metres. Although it is dated 1925-40 in Kennedy 2007, the fluidity of the paint and brushwork and the overall brightness of the colours suggest a date closer to 1940.

We are very grateful to Dr Brian Kennedy for his assistance in preparing the catalogue entries for lots 167-169.
