This beautifully crafted and neatly fitted miniature dressing-table nécessaire is reminiscent of objets d'art, often featuring mother-of-pearl, produced in Paris in the 1820-30s and sold in the fashionable shops of the Palais Royal, near the Louvre. A similar ormolu-mounted mother-of-pearl nécessaire was sold at Christie's London, 22 September 2011, lot 2 (£25,000 with premium). A further related miniature musical box in the shape of a windmill was sold Christie's, London, 5 July 2007, lot 8 (£15,600 with premium).
