CASE: the rocky plinth with floral, grassy and waterfall mounts surmounted by Cupid unveiling a sleeping Psyche, on a stepped rectangular base with outset façade inset with floral and scroll mount flanked by female mask mounts with leafy toupie feet DIAL: polychrome enamel signed 'Maucuy A PARIS' with inner concentric calendar, pierced and engraved gilt hands and blued steel date hand MOVEMENT: twin barrels with anchor escapement, silk suspension and countwheel strike to bell; lacking pendulum

Jean-Louis Maucuy, maître in 1770.

Maucuy was the son of clockmakers Pierre-Denis Maucuy (d. 1766) and Elisabeth Cormasson and succeeded his mother in taking over the operations of his father's shop. His business is recorded at Rues Saint-Martin and Aubry-le-Boucher in 1770, Rue Saint-Denis in 1812 and Rue de la Vieille Monnaie in 1815 (J.-D. Augarde, Les Ouvriers du Temps, Geneva, 1996, p. 374; Tardy, Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, Paris, p. 449).
